Twiggy the Italian Greyhound!

Twiggy the Italian Greyhound was rushed into our clinic one evening after badly breaking her toes on one of her back legs.

Due to changes in her current owner’s circumstances, she was due to be re-homed that week to a lovely new owner in Canberra.

We quickly assessed her condition and administered some pain relief. She was admitted into our hospital to stay the night and prepare for surgery to repair her broken bones the following day.

Twiggy had a great recovery from her procedure and we decided to keep her at the clinic until she was well enough to fly to Canberra and start her new life. So began the routine of daily bandage changes and morning and evening medications, much to Twiggy’s dismay. She was a wonderful patient and never once complained about anything.

After a few weeks the wound on her tiny paw started breaking down, which the vet said was a possibility. So the recovery was going to take a little longer than expected.

One Sunday afternoon one of the nurse’s parents came into the clinic to have a look at the new renovations that had been occurring. It was at this moment that Brittany’s mum laid eyes on Twiggy. She offered to foster Twiggy at her house until she was well enough to fly to Canberra. This way she was able to spend more time with people and a doggy friend named ‘Ollie’.

Twiggy & Ollie
The following week Twiggy made her way home to Brittany’s house and settled into her new life like she had been there all along.

She had her bandage changed daily at home and came into the clinic for regular checks with the vet.
Brittany’s mum began emailing photos of Twiggy to her new owner in Canberra.

After a few weeks Twiggy’s new owner could see how happy Twiggy was and that she was receiving extra love and attention, just what she deserved. She asked Brittany’s mum if she would consider adopting Twiggy to live in Adelaide.

After a lot of thought Brittany’s family decided that they would love to call Twiggy a permanent part of their family. Twiggy now has a canine brother named ‘Ollie’ and a feline sister named ‘Chloe’. She has settled into her new life and is one spoilt dog!
